Top Beaulieu Road auction sales as popularity of New Forest Ponies endures
STRONG sales at a recent Beaulieu Road internet auction have been credited to the continuing “quality and demand” for New Forest ponies.
The event was the fourth to take place online as repair work continues at the Beaulieu Road sales yard following a fire in April 2021.
The auction was open to all registered New Forest ponies and part-breds registered with the New Forest Pony Breeding and Cattle Society (NFPBCS), plus other breeds depastured on the open Forest by commoners.
It is run by the New Forest Livestock Society in conjunction with Southern Counties Auctioneers and the NFPBCS.
New Forest Livestock Society chair Lucinda Lang said: “The demand for the quality New Forest pony has continued with the online auctions proving to be popular.
“Prices reflected both the quality and demand for the New Forest pony and what they have to offer.
“This breed has an amenable temperament, versatility to multiple disciplines, hardiness, strength, and sure-footedness.
“The auction ran over two weekends to enable prospective buyers the opportunity to view any interested lots, which is highly recommended.”
During the sale 71 lots were put forward, of which 53 were fully registered New Forest ponies, including a number that were bred on the Forest.
The top price achieved by a pure breed New Forest pony was £4,550 for five-year-old bay gelding Furzley Vanity Faire by Wayland Cranberry, owned by Karen Corr and bred by Sandra Kilford and Jane Haskell.
The four-year-old bay gelding Ridley Sermon by Rushmoor Dalesman, owned by Alison Bennett and bred by Charlotte Lines, achieved a price of £3,800 after being professionally broken to ride.
Also broken to ride was four-year-old dark bay filly, Mighells Dittany by Peronne Notorious, owned by Elysia New, which sold for £3,600.
The palomino yearling gelding Waterslade Golden Cloud by Thatchers Dun Romain, owned by Gillian Walsh and bred by Nicky Stephens, achieved £3,000.
Blakeswater Celebration, a four-year-old mare by Blakeswater Quantam Solace, owned by Heather Dunning, was sold for £2,600.
Across the pure-bred New Forest pony sections, yearling colt sale prices ranged from £520 to £700 and yearling geldings from £800 to £3,000.
Two-year-old fillies ranged from £1,550 to £2,100 and two-year-old geldings ranged from £1,000 to £2,000.
The part-bred New Forest ponies section also achieved good results with a bid of £6,050 placed on Robinsbrook Zeberdee by Pigbush Racer out of May-Zee, owned by Leanne Sequenza, a four-year-old bay gelding broken to ride.
Donkeys were also included in the sale and achieved prices of £140 to £700.
The next livestock sale is set to take place at Beaulieu Road sales yard on Thursday 22nd September followed by further sales on Thursday 27th October and Thursday 1st December.
