RUNNERS are limbering up for the start of the New Forest marathon that will take place on Sunday at New Park, Brockenhurst.

There will be six races taking place which include the full marathon, half marathon, 10k, 5k, Junior 1k, Junior 200m and the Woodland Walk.

All routes will start and finish from New Park Showground, Brockenhurst and wind through the heart of the New Forest including the picturesque grounds at Rhinefield House.

Alongside the racing, the New Forest marathon village has a range of running-themed stands, traders featuring local New Forest produce, kids’ activities area, food outlets and the Hop-On Inn Bars. In addition to this, the village will host a variety of live music throughout the day.

Marathon organiser Chris Farr of ORA Events told the A&T: "It is fantastic to see another sell-out event this year considering it has been only five years since we relaunched the event that now continues to support over 25 local community groups through the New Forest Marathon Community Fund and raises an estimated £1 million for charities.

"This year will see changes to the half and full marathon routes to include the stunning Rhinefield House Hotel and to many runners delight a more direct route for those running the half marathon at the end."

Mr Farr added: "It’s vital that we continue to spread the importance of taking care of and preserving this amazing environment working closely with the Forestry Commission/National Park to stage what is now recognised as one of the country’s premier running events."
