Bransgore homeowner submits third planning application to NFDC for permission to rebuild fire-ravaged property on Wiltshire Road

A BRANSGORE homeowner has submitted a third planning application to rebuild his fire-ravaged property after previous submissions were refused by New Forest District Council.

As reported in the A&T, Christopher Ellison’s 18th century home in Wiltshire Road was destroyed by a blaze in January 2021.

His latest application to rebuild Corboy includes plans for a three-bedroom home with two en suites, bathroom, kitchen, family room and study.

Mr Ellison, who has been living in makeshift accommodation on site with his family, told the A&T: “We have been without a proper home for a second winter now and are eager to get the new dwelling built so that my family and I can return to normal and enjoy our property.”

The first application to rebuild a three-bedroom home on the site was turned down by NFDC on the grounds that it would be “inappropriate and unsympathetic” due to its size and appearance.

It would also have an adverse impact upon the character of the surrounding area, it said.

The second proposal which would have seen an eco-friendly modular construction built on the site.

But that was also turned down on the grounds it would harm the amenities of the occupiers of an adjacent property.

Ian Wright, of Pro Vision architects, said the new scheme was no longer a kit-built home.

He added: It is something more contextual, taking cues from nearby rural buildings and which is sensitive to neighbouring properties by being single-storey at the front and two-storey at the rear.

“Crucially, overlooking of adjacent properties has been carefully addressed which was a reason for refusal of previous applications.”

The kitchen and family room which were within a later addition to the original dwelling have also been kept and linked to the new dwelling.

So far there has been one letter of support from New Forest district councillor Richard Frampton, who represents Bransgore and Burley.

In a letter to NFDC, Cllr Frampton said: “This is a very attractive design and sits well in the plot.

“It will add a positive addition to the amenities of the area and sits well in its rural setting.”

A neighbour has also submitted a neutral response to the public consultation, raising concerns over noise associated with previous building work and landscaping at the site. The letter also asks for restrictions on building work times.

BCP Council said it has no objection to the application.

NFDC will make its decision on the latest plans after the public consultation ends on 24th January.
