Christchurch carnival parade to make comeback this weekend

CROWDS are preparing to welcome back the Christchurch carnival parade for the first time in two years.

The popular fixture is returning this weekend with a full programme of events, with organisers promising live music, a funfair and fireworks.

Activities tomorrow (Saturday) will run from 10am-10pm, with stalls, live music and a funfair, followed by fireworks at 9pm.

However, due to the forecast heat, the dog show will not be going ahead.

Sunday’s programme will run from 11am-4pm, with the carnival parade beginning at 1pm from the Two Riversmeet car park.

A spokesperson for the carnival said: “We’re so proud that Christchurch carnival remains a free event for everyone, whilst raising much-needed funds for local causes.

“We can’t wait to see everyone back.”

Carnival-goers are urged to bring their loose change for charity donations.

Last year, the carnival weekend raised more than £1,000 for the Waterlily Project, Green Door for Families and Absolute Music Trust.

This year’s is being sponsored by Christchurch Charitable Trust, Christchurch Town Council, Cookes Furniture and Hoburne Holidays.
