Two people fighting for their lives and one badly hurt after car hits tree on Rollestone Road in Holbury

TWO people were left fighting for their lives and another was badly hurt when a car ploughed into a tree off a Holbury road last night (Wednesday).

Multiple emergency crews, including two air ambulances, responded to the collision involving a red Ford Fiesta shortly after 10pm near Ipers Bridge in Rollestone Road.

All three were trapped inside, and firefighters had to cut off the roof to free the trio before handing them over to paramedics.

The crews from Hardley, Beaulieu, Hythe and Redbridge worked alongside the medics and police for nearly two hours.

Both the Hampshire & Isle of Wight and Wiltshire air ambulances landed nearby, joining three land ambulances, a hazardous area response team and a rapid response vehicle.

The car’s driver and front seat passenger, a 42-year-old man from Totton and a 21-year-old local man, suffered life-threatening injuries.

Both were taken by road to University Hospital Southampton’s major trauma centre, accompanied by helicopter medics.

The car’s rear-seat passenger, a 17-year-old local man, was also taken by road to the same hospital in what was described as a serious but stable condition.

The SCAS spokesperson said: “We received a 999 call just after 10pm with the caller reporting a single-car accident on Ipers Bridge, Holbury, resulting in the three people in the vehicle being trapped with suspected serious injuries.

“We sent three ambulances, a paramedic team leader in a rapid response vehicle, the full hazardous area response team and two air ambulances to the incident.

“Working with Hampshire police and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, our teams were able to get all three occupants out of the vehicle.”

The spokesperson continued: “The driver and front-seat passenger had sustained multiple, serious injuries and following initial treatment at the scene were taken by road to the major trauma centre at University Hospital Southampton.

“The third occupant, rear-seat passenger, was also taken to UHS by road in a stable condition with serious injuries.”

Police are urging witnesses, particularly those with dash cam footage, to come forward to help the investigation.

Those with information should contact Hampshire officers on 101, quoting incident reference number 44220456436 or Operation Esom.
