Hampshire County Council and BCP Council allocate more than 20,300 Reception Year and Year 3 school places
PARENTS on the Forest have found out where their young children will be educated after more 20,300 new school places were allocated throughout the county.
Hampshire County Council said some 20,305 (99.05%) of the 20,500 parents who applied for a Reception Year place, or a Year 3 place in a junior school, were successful.
In the BCP Council area more than 99% of the 3,460 families who applied for a Reception Year placement were successful.
A county council spokesperson said: “Parents in Hampshire who applied on time for a place for children starting school in September 2024 – either in Reception Year or in Year 3 in a junior school – have been sent the outcome of their application.
“The county council has processed more than 20,500 applications for children to start school in Reception Year (Year R) and to move from infant to their first year of junior education (Year 3).”
They continued: “More than 99% (99.05 per cent) of parents have been offered a Reception Year place for their child in one of their three preferred schools, with over 93% (93.64%) allocated a place at their first preference school.”
Describing school allocations in and around the Christchurch area, a BCP Council spokesperson said: “The majority (over 99%) of children due to start primary school or due to transfer to a junior or middle school in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole this September have been offered a place at one of their preferred schools.
“A total of 3,460 families living in the BCP area applied for a place in reception before the deadline of 15th January. All children of parents in the BCP area who applied by the national deadline have been offered a school place for September 2024.”
