Parrots worth £9,000 stolen in raid

NINE parrots worth around £9,000 were stolen when thieves raided an outbuilding in Burton.

A door was forced to gain entry to the structure before the offenders escaped with the pet birds which, police said, were of great sentimental value to their owner.

Among them was two double yellow-headed parrots, two African grey, two pink galah, a vinaceous, a Meyer’s and a little corella.

Officers investigating the break-in, which took place overnight last Thursday, are urging people to come forward if they saw any suspicious activity. The name of the road where it happened has not been revealed.

Police community support investigator Cheryl Belfield said: “These parrots are of great sentimental value to the victim as she has owned them for a number of years.

“I am appealing to anyone who has seen any parrots for sale in unusual circumstances since the time of the incident to get in touch.”
