A PASSENGER was badly hurt after getting out of a moving car on the A35 at Christchurch.

Police responded to a call-out stating someone had exited the front passenger side of a maroon-coloured Mazda 3 as it headed along the main road between the Stony Lane roundabout and Fountain roundabout around 11am last Friday.

The casualty, a man in his 40s, was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken by ambulance to Southampton General Hospital having suffered serious head injuries. However, a Dorset Police spokesperson said his condition was not life-threatening.

A local man in his 80s, who had been driving the Mazda, was not injured.

The force spokesperson was unable to confirm reports the vehicle crashed shortly after the passenger left it.

An investigation is being carried out, and people are being urged to come forward if they can help piece together the circumstances of the incident.

PC Mark Palmer, of Dorset’s traffic police, said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to police to come forward.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who may have any relevant dashcam footage that could help my investigation.”

Anyone with information should contact officers on 101, quoting incident reference number 55190111225.
