Pedestrian (50) badly hurt in car collision that shut A337 Christchurch Road in New Milton
A PEDESTRIAN was badly hurt in a collision with a car which closed part of a New Milton main road for several hours.
The alarm was raised around 1.15pm yesterday (Wednesday), with reports the collision involving a Honda Jazz had happened on the A337 Christchurch Road.
Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance’s temporary replacement helicopter landed on the nearby Fawcett’s Field.
The casualty, a 50-year-old man, was taken to hospital with what were described by Hampshire police as serious but not life-threatening injuries.
A critical care paramedic car was sent to the scene but was stood down en route.
The road was shut in both directions at its junctions with Old Milton Road and Sea Road while the incident was dealt with and investigated.
There were lengthy traffic delays until the route was reopened shortly before 6pm.
A force spokesperson said: “We were called to a report of a collision involving a pedestrian and a car on Christchurch Road in New Milton.
“The pedestrian, a 50-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. These are not thought to be life-threatening at the current time.”
