Detective Sergeant Nik Rose, of Western CID, said: "The victim in this incident has suffered very serious injuries and we are working hard to understand what has happened and where the vehicle has gone following the collision.

"If you are the driver of the Focus, or you saw the occupant or occupants of the vehicle, then we would urge you to make contact with us now.
