Pensioner fined £2,500 over crash that killed motorcyclist on A35
A PENSIONER who caused a fatal crash on the A35 at Hinton has been handed a £2,500 fine and a 10-year driving ban.
Maurice Reynolds (88), of Preston Way, Highcliffe, was attempting to turn into the grounds of the now closed East Close Hotel, near Hinton, on 3rd July last year when his Honda Jazz vehicle hit with a motorbike ridden by Stefan Konstanty.
The defendant had been travelling in the direction of Lyndhurst, while the 64-year-old victim was riding his black Honda CBR bike the opposite way towards Christchurch.
Mr Konstanty, who was from Southbourne, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Reynolds, meanwhile, sustained head injuries that required hospital treatment.
The defendant pleaded guilty to causing death while driving without due care and attention when he appeared before Southampton Magistrates’ Court.
It was said he had voluntarily given up his clean licence after the incident, having held it for over five decades.
The Bench ordered Reynolds to pay £255 court costs.
