Person dies after being struck by train near Ashurst New Forest railway station, blocking lines between Brockenhurst and Southampton Central, with South Western Railway warning of travel disruption until 10pm
A PERSON has died after being struck by a train near a New Forest railway station, blocking all lines between Brockenhurst and Southampton Central.
Emergency services responded to a call-out around 2.30pm today (Monday), reporting a casualty on the line near Ashurst station.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers, fire and paramedics attended and sadly a person was pronounced deceased.
“The incident is not thought to be suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
South Western Railway warned passengers faced disruption until around 10pm.
Services running through Brockenhurst and Southampton central stations could be cancelled, delayed or revised.
From 3.45pm rail replacement buses were laid on to stop at Brockenhurst, between Southampton Central and Bournemouth.
An SWR spokesperson said: “We have received reports that a person has been struck by a train between Southampton Central and Brockenhurst.
“Our response teams are working with the emergency services to assist with the incident.
“In order to allow emergency services access to the railway all power to the track will need to be switched off in the affected area.”
In addition to the rail replacement services, tickets are being accepted on Cross Country trains via any reasonable route.
They are also being accepted on Bluestar bus services 7, 8, 9, 11 and 12 between Southampton and Totton, as well as 6 between Southampton and Lymington.
Tickets can also be used on Morebus services X1 and X2 between Lymington and Bournemouth, 120 between New Milton and Lymington, 119 between New Milton and Lymington, 1A, 1B and 1C between Bournemouth and Christchurch, 33 between Bournemouth and Christchurch, M1 and M2 between Bournemouth and Poole, 16 and 17 between Bournemouth and Poole, 20 between Bournemouth and Poole, 8 and 9 between Poole and Hamworthy, 40 between Poole and Wareham; and X3 between Bournemouth and Salisbury.
The following First Bus services can also be used – X51 between Weymouth and Dorchester, X54 between Wareham and Weymouth, and 10 between Weymouth and Dorchester.
The SWR spokesperson continued: “For further information or onward travel advice please speak to a member of staff or use a station help point.
“We are very sorry for any delay that this may cause to your journey.”
Passengers preferring to continue their journey on local buses can check traveline.info but SWR tickets are not valid unless stated above.
