OVER 600 adults and 300 children participated in the 18 annual Lymington Lifeboat 10K on Sunday at Woodside Park.
Competitors in the Run in the Sun were met with perfect running conditions throughout the morning and the event has now raised over £240,000 which has aided Lymington’s RNLI lifeboat services.
Lymington mayor Anne Corbridge started the 10k races and she was also on hand to present prizes following the proceedings. The event was organised by Richard Clarke who did a tremendous job throughout the event.
Valeria Sesto also organised the children’s fun run races which was huge success as a staggering 317 children participated.
James Phillips was the fastest over the finish line as he completed the course in 33 minutes and 14 seconds. He was closely followed by Adam Jundi, Hugh Mackenzie and New Forest Runners’ Alastair Pickburn.
Lymington Triathlon Club’s Sophie Bubb was the fastest female in 38 minutes and 36 seconds.
'Overwhelmingly impressive'
Event organiser Clarke told the A&T: “Yet another ‘Run In The Sun’, and once again, the Lymington Lifeboat Crew delivered on every level; their enthusiasm and professionalism before and after the event, and in the actual delivery of the infrastructure to put on this year’s event is overwhelmingly impressive.”
“It is reflective of everything I see them do on a day to day basis when I am with them in their RNLI volunteer roles.
"Alongside the crew are numerous sponsors, organisations, individuals, friends and family of the crew, who volunteered their time and resources, to deliver a hugely successful day for the local community, as well as the Lymington Lifeboat Station.”
“On behalf of all the team at the Lymington Lifeboat, and myself, a huge thank you to everyone involved, who supported us, and I very much look forward to commencing the planning stages for next year’s event, which will be on 10th May 2020.
"A special thanks again, to our headline 10K sponsor, Haven Quay and Ali Neal and the team from Haven Quay and Lymington Yacht Haven, and also Ineos and their Go Run For Fun campaign which supports the children’s fun runs.”
