PHOTOS: Toddler escapes crash as firefighters cut mum from wreckage
A LITTLE girl had a miraculous escape from a car crash today (Wednesday) in which her mother and another relative had to be cut free from the wreckage.
The two-and-a-half-year-old toddler was found by rescuers sitting in her baby seat in the back of the Ford Mondeo, apparently totally unscathed.
She sat in a pushchair by the side of the road with her father, who had rushed to the scene at Everton on the A337 at its junction with the B3058 Milford road, as firefighters battled to rescue her mum.
A source at the scene told the A&T: “The car seat certainly did its job. She literally just had to be lifted out of the baby seat after the crash.
“She has been checked over by ambulance crew and appears to be fine although she is being taken to hospital just in case.”
Firefighters spent nearly two hours freeing the two women after the crash, which happened just after 9am.
Fire crews from Beaulieu, Lymington and New Milton attended the accident along with two ambulances.
Using specialist equipment, the firefighters cut through the metal of the car enabling the women to be put on body boards and transferred to ambulances to be taken to Southampton General Hospital.
Police took the little girl and her father to the same hospital to make sure she was uninjured.
Although the women’s car was badly damaged, a spokesperson for South Central Ambulance Service described their condition as ‘non-life threatening’.
According to Hampshire police, one of women had reported suffering a head injury in the collision while the other said she believed she had a back injury.
The A337 was closed just before and after the scene with traffic heading towards New Milton being diverted via Milford.
The driver of the other car, a blue Skoda. was apparently unhurt in the accident which left the road blocked for several hours.
