Lyndhurst scarecrow trail draws 1,000
FAMILIES flocked to a scarecrow trail in Lyndhurst featuring King Charles, Paddington Bear and Halloween horrors.
The trail of home-made figures made its second appearance after debuting in 2021, and delighted organisers said around 1,000 people followed maps to find the scarecrows and name their favourite.

Money raised from the event goes to Lyndhurst Primary School and preschool. Parents organised the trail in which nearly 90 local businesses and residents took part.
Mum Hannah Chalk said: “We couldn’t believe the amount of people who came this year, it far exceeded our expectations.
"There were families with children, which we expected – but there was also lots of pensioners and couples on their own.
“Everyone just seemed to love it. Some of the scarecrows were spectacular and there were around double the amount as there were last year.
"We ran it first last year and people wanted then for it to be an annual thing and after this year’s success that is definitely what will happen.
“This year’s scarecrows were incredibly imaginative and the trail is now a firm favourite in the village calendar.
"But we could not have done this without the generous support of the businesses in the village. They not only helped with the event but also provided vital funds to help the event go ahead.
“We are so thankful for everyone who creates one and for all the businesses that support us.”
Around 750 maps sponsored by Meridien Modena Ferrari dealership were sold at the local Co-op store for £2 which, together with donations, raised at least £1,800.
The winning scarecrows were King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla – named Tea and Cake with the King.
Primary school head teacher Mathew Bowen said: “We are incredibly grateful for the hard work put in by everyone.
"These funds will help support the children in a number of ways, not only by purchasing essential supplies but also giving them greater opportunities in learning.”
