Bransgore Fun Day features dozens of charity stalls and ‘best hat in the village’ competition
WACKY hats, classic cars and family races drew large crowds to Bransgore’s annual village fun day.
A highlight of the local calendar, the popular event, organised by Bransgore Rotary Club, also shone the spotlight on dozens of other local organisations and charities – which popped up throughout the recreation ground with information stalls and activities.
Rotary Club Fun Day spokesperson Jeff Schofield said: “The fun day is primarily about getting the community together and also acting as a fundraising tool for local charities and groups. This year Bransgore Scouts ran the café, and Burton Scouts operate the hots dogs and burgers stand.
“Although it’s wonderful if we can raise some money for the local community, the main aim of the fun day is about getting the village together and showcasing local charities and stalls.”
As well as a dazzling display of vintage vehicles, attendees also enjoyed live music and food-and-drink stalls, charity stands and children’s attractions such as face painting and stilt walkers. It’s estimated the fun day raised around £3,500 which will support local charities such as the Scout group, Minstead Trust and Christchurch Food Bank.
The event was officially opened by BBC South Today presenter and reporter Edward Sault who lives locally. The programme of main arena entertainment a Zumba workout, music from the Dolphin Marching Band, a dog show and family workout challenges led by the Gym Tin.
Children enjoyed making wacky hats, the fairground attractions, a circus skills workshop, face painting and obstacle races. Prizes were awarded to the villagers wearing the best hats.
Mr Schofield added: “The weather was a little windy but definitely much better than last year – we were very pleased with the number of people who turned out to enjoy the fun day.
“In the last year we have supported Bransgore Scouts with a donation of £3,000 towards a new floor. We also join with Verwood Rotary to help fund a day out for children from the Sherling School.”
