BCP Council to decide on Highcliffe 40mph limit reductions on A337 Lymington Road, Ringwood Road and Burley Road

A SPEED limit of 30mph on major Highcliffe roads is set to be introduced after concerns over speeding and road safety.

Cllr Andy Martin, who sits on the parish and BCP councils, announced that after he and other councillors raised the issue with a BCP traffic team, a report has recommended the limit on a section of the A337 Lymington Road and Ringwood Road.

At present both roads have 40mph speed limits, and the proposal will be discussed by BCP Cabinet on 7th February.

Cllr Martin told the A&T: “There has been growing concern among residents in both Highcliffe and Walkford about speeding traffic along the 40mph sections of Lymington Road and Ringwood Road.

“It makes no sense that these sections should be out of kilter with the rest of the 30mph speed limit along these very busy roads – both are built-up areas.

“Following dozens of representations I received early last year and a review by the BCP traffic team, cabinet next month will hopefully ratify the reduction to 30mph to improve road safety.

“But to make it work, motorists need to drive responsibly and the police need to be more visible in enforcing these limits.”

The council is also proposing to replace the national speed limit on Burley Road – between Winkton and Bransgore – with a 40mph limit.
