NFDC planners asked to approve plan to turn 150-year-old chapel in Damerham into a home
A 150-year-old chapel could become a family home under newly submitted plans.
Applicant Huzzey wants permission to convert the Methodist Chapel in Damerham High Street, which dates back to 1877, into a dwelling.
The proposed conversion would include installing rooflights, changing the building’s windows and creating a new terraced area, plus a parking area with a five-bar timber gate and foul drainage.
Planners at NFDC were told previous attempts to market the site had been unsuccessful due to its lack of foul drainage and useable parking arrangements.
The applicant, who owns Sunnydene adjacent to the chapel, said they are now in a position to “resolve” these issues.
In a design and access statement, they said: “The proposed development constitutes a modest, practical and measured re-use of a valued local heritage asset.
“It is not perfect, no scheme is, and even the conversion to residential use presents practical challenges.
“But is has been well-conceived and carefully considered, and would secure the future of the building and achieve important local and national planning aims.”
The consultation period for the proposed work ends on 19th July.
