Plan to turn Christchurch park Jumpers Common into 'wildlife rich' space
JUMPERS Common park in Christchurch will benefit from a government scheme which aims to make green spaces "wildlife rich".
It is one of eight across the BCP Council area where work will be overseen by a newly recruited nature recovery project manager assisted by a team of park "activators".
They will be boosting flora and fauna while also encouraging local communities to join in nature crafts, such as creating homes for birds, bats, hedgehogs and bees.
Wildflower meadows will be sown, and trees and hedgerows planted. There will also be school holiday activities for kids including minibeast hunting.
The money for the work comes from a £224,000 grant to BCP Council from the government’s Green Recovery Challenge Fund.
Cllr Mark Anderson, cabinet member for environment and place, said: “This is an exciting project that will enhance eight of our parks and open spaces, implementing positive changes to benefit all our communities, as well as increasing the biodiversity of these parks.”
