Plan to demolish house and build 25 new homes on Noads Way in Dibden Purlieu refused by New Forest District Council

A BID to demolish a house in Dibden Purlieu and replace it with 25 homes has been refused after sparking nearly 200 objections.

New Forest District Council threw out the scheme from developers AJC for land at Orchard Gate in Noads Way.

The plans were for 17 three-bedroom houses, four two-bedroom and three four-bedroom.

The company said the scheme would “bring significant benefits” to the area by offering homes for downsizers and first-time buyers.

But a huge number of local residents were against it and wrote to NFDC calling for it to be blocked.

One said: “Creating a small estate crammed with terraced and semi-detached houses, with limited useable parking, in the middle of this prestigious road would be a travesty.”

Another said: “The proposal to build 25 properties is clearly an overdevelopment of the site, which the builders intend to cram with as many homes as possible for maximum profit, is clearly not in keeping with the area immediately surrounding the site.”

Others objected that the land suffered from flooding, traffic near it was already too busy, and there was insufficient parking.

Hythe and Dibden Parish Council were also against the scheme saying that it would “out of keeping with the street scene and character of the area”.

NFDC refused the application on the grounds that it would be overdevelopment and would impact on "highway and pedestrian safety".

It also said the applicants had failed to demonstrate surface water drainage would not result in flooding.
