Plea for witnesses after Fordingbridge man dies following crash on A338

AN elderly motorist died following a two-vehicle crash on the A338 between Breamore and Downton.

The incident involving a white Toyota Aygo and a red Vauxhall Astra took place in Salisbury Road just after 2.20pm last Friday.

The Toyota driver, an 82-year-old man from Fordingbridge, was taken by ambulance to hospital where he later passed away, while the 30-year-old man driving the Vauxhall was injured.

Police are urging those who saw the collision to come forward, and are particularly keen to speak to those who may have captured dash cam footage while driving in the area.

A spokesperson for the Hampshire force said on Saturday: “We are appealing for witnesses after a white Toyota Aygo and a red Vauxhall Astra collided on the A338 Salisbury Road, between Breamore and Downton, just after 2.20pm.

“The driver of the red Vauxhall, a 30-year-old man, did not suffer any injuries.

“The driver of the white Toyota, an 82-yer-old man from Fordingbridge, suffered life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital. Sadly, he has since died.

“Officers investigating the collision would like to hear from anyone who was in the Salisbury Road area of Fordingbridge yesterday afternoon who may have seen this collision, specifically anyone who was driving in the area who may have captured dash cam footage.”
