Plug and bray – donkey rescued after getting legs stuck in bog

RESCUERS went to ass-ist a donkey which had become stuck in a muddy bog in the New Forest.

One of the rescuers told the A&T: “The bog is a floating layer of moss and if you break through that crust it’s very difficult to get your footing.

“The donkey’s front legs had broken through that crust and it couldn’t get out.”

The rescuers freed the animal by placing a strap underneath it and guiding it out onto hardstanding. A New Forest agister also attended and checked the donkey was okay.

“This was a low-tech rescue with very few resources used,” the rescuer added.

Pictures of the incident were posted on Twitter afterwards in a light-hearted post by the fire service.

“Have you herd this one? In Bramshaw this morning, a donkey’s front legs were stuck in mud,” it said.

“Two #TeamHants animal rescue advisors successfully ass-isted her out unharmed using rescue equipment.”
