Police confirm stabbing investigation at cordoned-off house

POLICE have cordoned off a section of street outside a New Milton home as they investigate a stabbing attack in the early hours of today (Friday).

A 56-year-old man suffered wounds to his arm and body when he was assaulted outside a house in Gore Road shortly before 5.30am, a spokesperson for the Hampshire force said.

The victim was taken by ambulance to hospital, but the police said his injuries were not thought to have been life-threatening.

Officers were still at the scene at around 9.45am and, as well as the cordon, a foil sheet was covering a ground-floor window.

The police spokesperson did not immediately confirm whether a knife or bladed weapon had been used in the attack.

But just after 11am the force said the incident was being treated as a stabbing.

The spokesperson said: “An investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances of what happened.”

Shocked residents posted about it on Facebook, including a woman claiming to be the man’s daughter who reported he had been stabbed numerous times.

She posted: “Anyone know or hear anything about the attack on Gore Road early hours of this morning please let me know ASAP.

“My dad has just gone to hospital after being stabbed numerous times!”

Another person commented: “Makes me feel sick... If anyone knows anything do the right thing and come forward!”

The attack follows a similar incident in August in which a man was left with head injuries and lacerations to his leg after a late-night assault in Hardy Close, near the Nedderman Centre.
