Police helicopter used in hunt for fleeing suspect driver
A POLICE helicopter hovered over the Penington area as officers hunted for a motorist who fled from a vehicle they had pursued.
The car, which had failed to stop when required by a patrol vehicle, was pulled over in Pennington Oval at around 11.15am on Saturday.
Officers said the suspect got out of the vehicle and escaped on foot, evading a search by police.
Several members of the public reported sightings of the National Police Air Service helicopter overhead as it joined in the search, which ultimately failed to track down the man.
Officers seized a quantity of class B drugs from the abandoned car, according to a Hampshire police spokesperson who said enquiries were ongoing.
Posting on Facebook, local police Sgt Kat Smith said: “Our response colleague attempted to pull a vehicle over, the male failed to stop and a pursuit ensued on car and by foot.
“The police helicopter was deployed. To the best efforts of the officers, the male was not located.”
