AN assisted suicide probe has been launched by police after the body of a 94-year-old man was found at his Lymington home.

Hampshire Constabulary confirmed its officers are trying to establish the “exact circumstances” surrounding the death of Ralph Saxon Snell, of Courtenay Place.

The body of the retired legal shorthand writer was discovered on the morning of Monday 28th January.

A spokeswoman for the force told the A&T an 89-year-old Lymington woman and a 68-year-old man from Somerset were apprehended on suspicion of intentionally doing an act capable of encouraging/assisting the suicide of another.

“An investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances of the death,” she said.

“They [the two arrested] have been released from police custody but remain under investigation. Enquiries are ongoing.”

An inquest has already been opened and adjourned at Winchester Coroner’s Court.

It heard the results of a post-mortem examination were still being awaited, including toxicology.

The full inquest is due to take place at the same court on 9th August.
