Police make arrest after knife-wielding robber snatches cash from Co-op store in Totton

POLICE arrested a 27-year-old man after cash was stolen from a convenience shop during an armed robbery.

The incident at the Co-op in Rumbridge Street, Totton, took place around 8.45pm on Sunday.

A man is said to have entered the store armed with a knife and demanded staff give him money. He then pulled open the tills and stole an unknown amount of cash.

A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary confirmed to the A&T on Tuesday that a man from Southampton had been arrested on suspicion of robbery.

A Co-op spokesperson told the A&T: “We can confirm there was an incident at the Co-op store on Rumbridge Street on 16th December. The store soon re-opened to serve the community.

“The safety of our colleagues and customers is of paramount importance and the Co-op takes retail crime very seriously.

“We are implementing a number of measures to deter both criminal activity and aid convictions. The police are investigating and we appeal for anyone with information to come forward.”
