A MAN in his 70s died in a head-on crash between two vehicles, which resulted in a stretch of the A337 near Lyndhurst being closed in both directions for several hours.

The incident involving a Land Rover Discovery and a Honda Jazz took place on the stretch of Romsey Road between the village and Bartley around 2.30pm yesterday (Tuesday).

Firefighters from the village and Brockenhurst responded, but one of the drivers was declared dead at the scene.

Hampshire police are urging those who saw the crash, near the New Forest Hunt Club and Kennels, to come forward. They are also keen to see any dash cam footage which could help their investigation.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area as the road closure remained in place throughout the evening rush hour while crash scene investigations were carried out.

A statement released by the police today said: “We are carrying out investigations into the exact circumstances of the collision.

"Officers are keen to speak with anyone who may have witnessed it, or who may have dash cam of the incident or either of the vehicles on the A337 around 2.30pm yesterday afternoon."

Those with information should call 101, quoting 44200217682
