Police probe fire which destroys New Forest barn




POLICE have been called over the cause of a fire which destroyed a barn in Blackfield in the early hours today (Friday).

Crews from Hardley, Beaulieu, Hythe, Redbridge, St Mary’s and Totton battled the blaze after a callout just after 12.30am to Gatewood Hill.

The barn, which was filled with hay bales, was well alight by the time firefighters arrived.

Six fire engines attended the scene, alongside two water carriers, and a thermal imaging camera was used to help contain the blaze and prevent it spreading to nearby buildings.

Buildings next to barn were saved, and crews remain at the scene.

A spokesperson for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Rescue Service said police had been informed "due to the cause being doubtful".
