Hampshire police respond after travellers pitch up at Ringwood long-stay car park on Furlong




A large group of travellers has set up camp in a long stay car park in Ringwood town centre.

The convoy of around 30 caravans and trailers pitched up in the car park on The Furlong on Monday evening.

A Hampshire police spokesperson said: "We were made aware of an encampment on The Furlong in Ringwood, which includes the long stay car park, arriving on Monday 27th March at around 6.40pm.

"Our officers are making regular visits as part of their routine patrol plans, while working closely with local partners and the landowners in order to seek a suitable and prompt resolution."

A spokesperson for New Forest District Council, which owns the car park, said: "We are aware of an unauthorised encampment within Ringwood town centre carpark.

"Council staff visited the location yesterday morning, liaising with all persons present looking at any community concerns."
