Police catch youth illegally riding incorrectly assembled electric motorbike on Mulberry Gardens in Fordingbridge
POLICE seized an incorrectly assembled electric motorcycle being illegally ridden on a Fordingbridge street by a youngster.
The 14-year-old local boy was spotted by a patrol as he rode the bike on Mulberry Gardens without a crash helmet, driving licence or insurance shortly before 3pm on Sunday 24th November.
Posting online afterwards, officers said the machine, which had a top speed of 28mph, was not registered with the DVLA.
They also discovered it had not been put together correctly and was only partially assembled, with its headlights and indicators facing to the rear.
The bike was recovered to the police storage pound at the expense of the youth’s parents.
The police post warned: “These machines can only be used on private land as not road legal, it is important that parents realise and don't inadvertently buy birthday or Christmas presents which risk prosecution and put users in harm’s way.”
People who know anyone involved in driving under the influence or illegally are urged to contact the force online via hampshire.police.uk or call 101.
