Police stop 67 motorists in Lyndhurst during crackdown on illegal vehicles alongside Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency and New Forest District Council
A CRACKDOWN on illegal vehicles saw 67 stopped in Lyndhurst today (Monday), with two cars seized for having no MOT.
The stop and check initiative was jointly organised between the roads policing unit from Totton alongside the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency and the enforcement team from New Forest District Council.
Of those stopped, seven were prohibited from continuing their journeys for being in a dangerous condition.
This included three with bald tyres, which had to be replaced on site, one van didn't have a working hand brake, and others with faulty brake lights, headlights or rear lights.
Two vehicles were seized for having no MOT and because one driver also did not have a valid licence.
Seven vehicles were stopped for having insecure loads and one had the wrong number plates on its trailer.
Police say five drivers were not wearing seatbelts and two who were carrying waste did not have the correct licences.
Several drivers were also breathalysed, but all were negative.
A post on the New Forest Heart Police Facebook page said: “Thanks also to Forestry England, the national park authority, the Totton Police team and the Countrywatch team for all their help.”
