Pony and cow put down after accidents on New Forest roads
A PONY and a cow were injured and had to be destroyed following two separate accidents on New Forest roads last weekend.
The pony – a chestnut mare which was wearing a reflective collar – was struck in the accident between Hilltop and Ipers Bridge at around 4pm on Saturday.
Agister Jonathan Gerrelli attended the scene and the animal had to be destroyed because of the severity of its injuries.
Later the same evening a black Angus steer was fatally injured at 8.30pm on the B3056 at Pigbush.
In a third accident on Saturday, the verderers received a report that a black filly wearing a reflective collar was involved in a collision on the C10 at Vereley at around 6.10pm, but an inspection of the animal did not reveal any injuries.
On Wednesday 4th September the verderers received a report of a hit-and-run accident involving a cow on the B3078 at Roundhill at 8.20am. But when the agister attended it could not be found.
The following day a motorist reported an incident involving a pony on the B3054 at Hatchett, and again the animal was not found.
