GARDENING efforts have blossomed for New Milton Town Council which has been selected as a finalist in this year’s Britain in Bloom competition.

Having been awarded the silver gilt in its first two years of entering South & South East In Bloom in 2017 and 2018, the council will represent the south of England in the national contest run by the Royal Horticultural Society.

In Bloom judges were impressed by New Milton’s passion and enthusiasm which was said to have shone through in its stylish summer floral displays.

It was also found that all-year-round activities and features were greatly admired by residents and visitors alike.

The council’s estates and facilities manager, Mark Jeffries, said: “This is a proud moment for New Milton and the team as we look forward, as always, to this year’s challenge, and to welcoming both sets of judges later in the year. It’s recognition for everything we do.”

Horticultural efforts are coordinated by the town council in collaboration with local businesses and the local residents’ association.

Together they aim to bring plenty of floral colour to the centre of New Milton in the summer as well as spectacular festive lighting throughout December.

Mayor Cllr David Rice-Mundy said: “I’m very proud of the town and its accolade, and to everyone who works so hard to achieve such beautiful displays for everyone to enjoy. It really is amazing.”
