Ringwood School pupils pelted in colour dash for £100,000 building project

YOUNGSTERS brought a splash of colour to the streets of Ringwood for a fundraising event.

Pupils from Ringwood School were pelted with coloured powders on a three-and-a-half-mile colour dash around the town on Friday.

The event was held in aid of the school's £100,000 fundraiser, which will go towards the installation of a new performance venue The Barn, and the refurbishment of a student eatery and socialising space The Stables.

More than 1,000 students wearing bright clothes and neon accessories followed the colour dash route, passing by five colour stations where school staff spattered them with coloured powders.

After weeks of fundraising, students have so far raised over £12,000.

Event organiser and operations manager Sam Coombes said: “The atmosphere was very uplifting and seeing our young people and staff having so much fun again after almost two years of disruption was fantastic.

"We were proud to run an event bringing so many members of the local community together and, of course, lots of fun was had in the process of raising an incredible of money.”

Sam added: "Our gratitude must also be shared to our team of marshals – without them the event simply could not have taken place.

"They were a fantastic and energetic team of parents, local community group members and extended family members of staff and students. After the event a few areas were left a little more colourful than we had hoped. Our thanks to Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service and the team at Ringwood Fire Station who assisted in hosing down over the weekend and on Monday."

Ringwood School's Barn building project, the result of four years' planning and fundraising, is due to open in September and will host BBC Radio 4's 'Any Questions?' show on 30th September.
