A school spokesperson said: “To celebrate the Harvest festival, the children were encouraged to bring non-perishable food items from home, creating a tangible connection between their daily lives and the purpose of the food bank.

“As the young learners arrived at the food bank, they were greeted by friendly staff members who explained the mission and function of the organisation.

“The children were given a tour of the facility, learning about the process of collecting, sorting, and distributing food to those in need within the community.”

Children worked with food bank staff to create a list of extra items that were needed, and pupils also learned about the types of food that are most beneficial for donation and the significance of providing nutritious options.

After the visit, the children made posters advertising the food bank to the local community which are due to go on display around Lyndhurst soon.

The school spokesperson added: “The children thoroughly enjoyed their trip to the food bank.

“It proved to be a powerful and educational experience.

“The children not only learned about the importance of empathy and community support but also discovered the impact of their own contributions in making the world a better place for everyone.”
