Exxonmobil Fawley Refinery to test its alarm system twice today

RESIDENTS near Fawley Refinery are being alerted as it carries out annual alarm tests today (Tuesday).

As usual on the first Tuesday of October each year, Exxonmobil will test the public warning system at the Control of Major Accident Hazards Regulations 2015 (COMAH) site.

The COMAH alarm will be set off at 2.30pm and 7pm, with the activation sound a two-tone warble lasting for one minute.

This will be followed by the all-clear, which is a continuous sound.

Publicising the tests, Exxonmobil said: “No action is required by local residents.”

The firm’s website states the COMAH alarm has never been sounded in earnest in 70 years of operations.

For information on what to do in the event of the COMAH alarm sounding for real, visit exxonmobil.co.uk/fawley or call 023 8089 2511.
