Residents face new ID rule to use town's recycling centre

CHRISTCHURCH residents will have to take proof of their address to use the Wilverley Road recycling centre when it is taken over by BCP Council in a few weeks.

The council is taking over the facility along with the bin collection service on 1st April from Dorset Waste Partnership.

The Wilverley Road recycling centre can be used only by residents of the BCP Council area, and proof of address such as a driving licence or utility bill will be required.

A welcome pack telling residents what they can expect from the BCP Council bin and recycling service is being distributed over the next week.

It contains an eight-page information leaflet and a collection calendar showing dates over the year when bins will be emptied.

Rubbish and recycling will be emptied alternate fortnights together with weekly food waste collections.

Residents will be able to recycle more items including aluminium foil and Tetra Pak cartons. There will no longer be a separate glass collection, so these items should be added to main recycling.

One vehicle will collect the main bins on collection day while another will empty food waste containers.

Christchurch’s garden waste service will also transfer over to BCP Council, with the fortnightly collection service running from April to December at a cost of £37.65.

The move by BCP Council follows Hampshire County Council requiring residents to register to avoid paying a £5 fee from 1st April every time they visit recycling centres, such as those at Efford at Lymington, Somerley near Ringwood, and Marchwood.
