Retirement developer wins Best Medium Housebuilder at industry Oscars

NEW FOREST developer Churchill Retirement Living has won the title of Best Medium Housebuilder at a top industry awards night.

The Ringwood-based company beat competitors from across the country at the prestigious WhatHouse? Awards ceremony in London.

More than 1,700 senior industry figures attended the prize-giving at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel, which was hosted by comedian Dara O’Briain and astronaut Major Tim Peake.

Spencer and Clinton McCarthy, brothers and co-founders of Churchill Retirement Living, said in a joint statement: “Our mission is to be the most successful housebuilder in the UK, and accolades like this demonstrate our progress towards that goal.

“We’re incredibly proud of the strength of our business, the quality of our product and our excellent customer service, but most of all our fantastic team of people around the country.

“We’d like to thank all our Churchill colleagues for the hard work that goes in throughout the year to help achieve this success.”

The Best Medium Housebuilder category aims to recognise the quality, design and range of developments.

The judges’ report said: “With Churchill it is not just about internal leadership and staff and customer care and wellbeing, but about a strong industry voice externally, championing the needs of the retirement homes community, highlighting challenges and offering solutions at national and local level.”

Churchill specialises in homes for the over-60s and has more than 160 developments around the country. This year it won a bid for 43 flats in South Street, Hythe, but was refused plans for 27 off the A35 Bournemouth Road in Lyndhurst.

The family-owned firm is run by the McCarthy brothers, the sons of John McCarthy who launched the retirement homes giant, McCarthy and Stone.
