Ricky Gervais fans start queuing at Regent Centre Christchurch at 4am
Ricky Gervais fans weren’t leaving anything to chance, as the queue for tickets at the Regent Centre started at around 4am this morning (Friday).
The popular award-winning comic and writer has announced two Christchurch dates next week as part of a short run previewing new material.
Tickets went on sale at 10am this morning (Friday), but the Regent’s booking website has been predictably struggling under the demand.
One fan said he got up at 5.45am, arriving at 6.15am, and there were already 20 ahead of him in the queue. By the time doors opened, the line stretched all the way up High Street.
This left those in the queue with the best chance of securing a prized seat, which are priced £22, with a max of six per customer.
When the gigs were announced, Regent Centre house manager Chris Cole said: “It’s a real honour to be selected as the only venue outside of London for Ricky Gervais’ new material show.
“This is one of the most high-profile acts we’ve ever welcomed to the Regent so we’re expecting tickets to sell incredibly quickly.”
Gervais is the creator and star of The Office, Extras, Derek, and critically acclaimed Netflix hit After Life.
Following the global success of his two previous Netflix stand-up specials Humanity and Supernature, 2023 saw Gervais release third special Armageddon, which won a Golden Globe, was the global number one most-watched show on Netflix and followed a record-breaking international tour, selling out 85 arenas across the world. Gervais’s show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the highest-grossing comedy gig.
He has won countless awards and enjoyed critical success for After Life. The Office is the most successful British comedy of all time, shown in more than 90 countries, with 13 remakes.
Gervais has also hosted the Golden Globes awards five times, in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2020.
Ricky Gervais & Friends is on at the Regent Centre Monday 13th and Tuesday 14th May. The other two venues announced were in London and Watford.
