Ringwood residents asked to vote on referendum for neighbourhood plan for town on polling day

AS WELL as voting in the general election on 4th July Ringwood residents are being asked to take part in a referendum over the town’s Neighbourhood Plan.

Describing the vote as a “historic event”, the town council said it will help “shape the future of the Ringwood”.

The Neighbourhood Plan will be used by planning authorities New Forest District Council and New Forest National Park Authority when it decides on applications.

A key focus of the plan will be affordable housing and the prioritisation of smaller homes, ensuring that “Ringwood remains accessible to all residents”.

Energy efficiency is another primary issue, with the plan promoting environmentally friendly practices and reducing the town’s carbon footprint.

Residents will also be asked if they agree with proposed efforts to preserve Ringwood’s “unique character”, by ensuring any new developments are in keeping.

They will be asked whether they believe funding should be set aside for local projects, meaning more resources for “Ringwood-specific initiatives”.

If successful, the town council’s share of developers’ contributions - the Community Infrastructure Levy - will increase from 15% to 25%, providing additional funds for vital projects.
