Ringwood Town wake up to stage late comeback
Sydenhams Wessex Div One: Ringwood Town 2-1 Petersfield Town
RESURGENT Ringwood Town claimed their fourth win on the bounce with an injury time winner against Petersfield Town in Sydenhams Wessex Div One on Saturday.
Petersfield started the game brighter and had an early penalty claim waved away by the referee when number 9 Matt Rowland went down softly following the slightest of nudges.
Ringwood had a near post effort saved by Petersfield keeper Nick Hall before Ben Harris’ fine cross to the back post was simultaneously met by Hall’s hands and Dean Reynolds’ head that led to a Petersfield free-kick, much to Reynold’s outrage.
The half ended with the scores still level at 0-0.
The deadlock lasted five minutes into the second half, a long ball over the top from Petersfield saw their striker Rowland get in front of the centre backs before sliding the ball past the keeper to make it 1-0 before running off to celebrate with the two travelling Petersfield fans.
The goal woke Ringwood up and they were almost level within minutes when Lee Vint blasted over from 8 yards out.
More chances came their way before a fine give and go on the edge of the Rams’ area saw Reynolds find space on the right to cross for Jamie Kemp to chest the ball in on 77 minutes.
The deciding goal came in the 92nd minute when more good work on the right from Reynolds led to a cross that worked its way through the area before being pinged back across goal, the resulting goalmouth scramble saw the ball fall perfectly to Lee Vint who blasted home to seal the win for Ringwood.
Following the match, Ringwood manager Richard Morse said: “Really pleased with the lads’ character, to come from behind in the game just shows the togetherness with have as a group.
“I was disappointed to concede the way we did but we made some tactical changes and that helped us get the result.”
