Doves of peace hung by children on tree in Ringwood to show support for Ukraine

CHILDREN hung clay doves of peace bearing messages for people in Ukraine on a tree in Ringwood during an event to show support for the war-torn country.

As Ukrainian music played, people gathered together in the Furlong around the central tree on which the doves were placed.

The evening event was live streamed to Ukraine by Poulner Baptist church.

It had been organised by the store Love to B as a “show of love” for those fleeing the country, or still living in fear within it.

They had created the doves on which children scribbled heartfelt messages. Staff from the shop, which sells ‘luxurious, natural and ethical skincare’, also decorated the Furlong with blue and yellow ribbons, flags and flowers.

Local youngsters were offered the chance to have the Ukraine flag painted on their faces during the evening.

Mum Collette Norris attended the event with her nine-year-old daughter Emily. She said: “It was a lovely evening, it was so nice seeing Ringwood people coming together to support Ukraine.”

Julie Astley-Weston, from Love to B, said: "The community have been amazing, so far they have helped us raise £5,400 from the sale of doves to adults and donations. Our staff made 500 in one week and people still want them.

"Every penny from their sale goes to help Ukrainian people."

The doves are on sale for a minimum £10 donation. The store is also selling a £16 “Peace and Hope Box” containing a dove of peace and aromatherapy ‘Hope’ candle.

All proceeds will go to the Disaster and Emergency Committee Ukraine appeal.
