Weekly rise in New Forest Covid cases slows
THERE was a small rise in the weekly number of new Covid-19 infections in the New Forest, according to the latest government figures, following a series of big jumps.
This week the figure in the district reached 594 – up from 573 the week before and 371 the week earlier. It equates to a case rate per 100,000 of 329.8.
There were no coronavirus deaths reported by the Office for National Statistics in the New Forest or the BCP Council area which includes Christchurch.
In the BCP conurbation the growth in new weekly cases also slowed with 2,014 recorded, compared to last week when the number more than doubled from 892 to 1,741.
The rate per 100,000 this week was 509.4 – higher than the UK rate of 417.
The provisional fatality figures from the ONS related to Covid-19 being mentioned on the death certificate up to 16th July but registered up to 24th July.
Second-dose vaccinations in the New Forest jumped on Tuesday from 75.7% (116,606) to 77.6% (119,610). First doses went from 88.6% (136,499) to 88.9% (137,021).
In the BCP area, second jabs have been administered to 65% (231,094) and first doses to 78.8% of adults (280,349).
In England the first-dose vaccination rate was 78.2% and for second doses it had reached 62.8%.
