RLymYC and Lymington Town combine for sell-out regatta
The Royal Lymington Yacht Club and Lymington Town Sailing Club joined forces and put on a two-day dinghy regatta.
This year was a sell-out event, reaching the maximum of 120 boats, with 65 visiting crews and their supporters. The regatta used facilities from both clubs over the two days.
The night party, sponsored by local companies Harken UK and Nick Cox Chandlery, was a great occasion with a magician and raffle supported by several local companies.
The racing was a more difficult affair, with fickle, light winds and a roaring tide. Despite the challenging conditions, the race officers were able to completed all six races that were scheduled over the weekend.
Two courses were set for the event which saw competitors take to the Western Solent for the races.
However, the sailors showed real grit on the racecourses but the sun did shine throughout the event making conditions slightly easier for the crews.
Pete Barton won the RS Aero event while Kevin Podger/Heather Chipperfield topped the Fast Handicap fleet in their RS400.
Richard Russell/Sylvia Weger were crowned champions in the Medium Handicap fleet in their Tasar and John Claridge/Peter Saunders were a highlight of the event as they became Seafly national champions.
The competitors thanked the volunteers from both Royal Lymington and Lymington Town who put in hours of hard work both on-and-off the water to make the event a success.
