Driver abandons broken-down car on A31 near Minstead and gets Uber home
THERE were long delays for drivers on the A31 this morning (Thursday) after a motorist abandoned their broken-down car and got an Uber home.
Police warned a prosecution was impending for the offender as they dealt with the Land Rover blocking one lane of the westbound carriageway at Castle Malwood shortly before 6.30am.
Delays of up to 25 minutes were reported before the vehicle was cleared from the carriageway by 7.45am.
A Twitter post by Hampshire Roads Policing Unit said: “If you are delayed heading west on the A31 this morning, this is why... the owner thought it would be a good idea to leave it in lane 2 and get an Uber home!
“Needless to say, prosecution heading their way!”
Twitter users took to the comments to vent their frustration.
One wrote: “Luckily he didn't cause an accident with anyone leaving it stranded like that [be]cause before your arrival there would [have] been no prior warning of it.”
