Costa in Lyndhurst’s high street to close

A POPULAR coffee chain is set to shut its doors to customers in the New Forest for good today (Friday).

No reason has been given for the closure of Costa Coffee in Lyndhurst high street.

A Costa Coffee spokesperson told the A&T: “We can confirm that our franchise-owned Costa Coffee store in Lyndhurst is closing its doors for trade on Friday, with team members looking to be redeployed to nearby stores.

“Customers can continue to enjoy their favourite coffee in the Totton shopping centre nearby, or by using the [online] store locator.”

A regular customer of the store told the A&T: “Personally, I’ve known some of the staff as long as I’ve been in the village which is nine years, so it will be sad to see them go. I know they had regulars who went in daily also. I’m sure they’ll be impacted also.

“It will be a big space [left] empty and I’m not sure who could afford to fill it, going by what I was told about the fees. Unfortunately Lyndhurst has a lot of coffee houses, and looks like possibly the non-chain ones are in favour to people visiting.

“Fingers crossed someone can fill this big space soon though, as empty premises on high streets are a more common feature these days.”

Chair of the parish council, Cllr Chris Willsher, added: “Costa will be missed by many residents and we are saddened to see the closure of another business in Lyndhurst. The premises occupy a central position in the High Street – we hope they will not remain empty for long.”
