Parents and carers are being urged to sign up for free places at more than 140 local activity clubs

Parents and carers are being urged to sign their children up for free places at more than 140 local activity clubs across Hampshire over the summer holidays.

Any families eligible for income-related free school meals are entitled to take advantage of the schemes, where they will enjoy games, exercise and healthy food.

The government-funded Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) clubs are available to children from reception to year 11.

Hampshire County Council’s executive lead member for children’s services, Cllr Edward Heron, said: “I highly recommend parents check out this fantastic free programme.

“The fun and enriching experiences they will enjoy as part of our HAF scheme, whether it is learning to ride a bike, learn a new sport or take part in a cultural visit, will make the most of the school holidays without parents worrying about cost.”

Individual programmes are run by a range of providers including schools, childcare organisations, community groups and sports clubs. Schools are helping to broaden the reach of the programme by sharing details of local schemes with eligible families.

Schemes are now open for bookings and HAF providers' details can be found on Hampshire’s family information and services hub. Demand for places can be high in some areas, so parents are encouraged to check all local venues and add their names to waiting lists to take advantage of any cancellations.
