Scintillating Schreuder seals Lymington victory on final day

SOUTH African teenager Gareth Schreuder hit his first Southern Premier League ton as Lymington brushed aside Basingstoke & North Hants by 113 runs at the Sports Ground.

Lymington won the toss and elected to bat, and the opening pair were Terry Crabb (0) and Dan Cox (46). Crabb was trapped LBW in the second over which brought Ryan Scott (39) to the crease. The score moved onto 87 in the 20th over before Scott and Cox departed.

With the innings stuttering, Gareth Schreuder came in to shore up the Lymington batting, but Hand (30) was caught by ex-Hampshire bowler David Griffiths in the 39th over at 175-4.

Dorset player Harry Fisher (28) joined Schreuder (102*) and helped him to his first Southern Premier League century and put on 95 runs for the fifth wicket before Fisher was out to the last ball.

Lymington finished on 270-5. The total target was reduced to 266 off 48 overs due to rain which reduced the overs target to 48.

In reply, Basingstoke were soon in trouble to the Lymington opening pair Matt Metcalfe (2-24) and Guy Layman (2-26) and at 44-4 in the 11th over they were struggling. Metcalfe has topped the ECB Southern Premier Division bowling charts for the sixth time in ten seasons after picking up two wickets.

Dorset U17 player Josh Royan (2-24) then struck early bowling both Tyler Bradley (12) and Jordan Hobday (22). Dan Cox (1-19) and Ryan Scott (2-26) with a single over from centurion Gareth Schreuder (1-8) picking up his first Premier League wicket, Lymington reduced the Basingstoke innings to 152 all out in 37 overs, 113 runs short of their target.

Lymington finished in fourth place in the Southern Premier Division with the victory behind winners Bashley, second-placed St Cross and third-placed South Wilts.
