Totton park cordoned off after 13-year-old girl reportedly raped

A 13-year-old girl was raped in Totton just under two weeks after a previous attack on another teenager.

Police confirmed yesterday (Sunday) that investigations were continuing into the latest rape which happened in the park off Testwood Lane between 6.20pm and 8.30pm on Friday.

Detectives have been carrying out house-to-house enquiries, with an area of the park cordoned off.

They have also spoken to local businesses to obtain CCTV footage which could help piece together a timeline of events.

A Hampshire force spokesperson said the incident was currently not believed to be linked to any other in the town.

A 15-year-old girl was reported to have been raped in the Beaumont Road area around 8.30pm on 1st March.

Officers cordoned off a nearby car park on Testwood Lane as they investigated that previous offence.

Following last Friday’s rape, uniformed officers have been patrolling the town over the weekend.

Lead investigator DI Claire Shawley said: “I know this incident is extremely concerning for the local community, and we are working hard to investigate what has happened as a priority.

"Our team have been conducting enquiries in the town throughout the weekend, and colleagues from our local policing teams are carrying out additional patrols.

"We are also supporting the victim and her family.”

DI Shawley continued: "I know at times like this, it is natural for people to want as much information as possible, and we will share more when we can. But I would ask you not to speculate at this time about who may be involved.

"If you do have any information which could assist our investigation, then please do get in touch with us. However small it may seem to you, it could be a vital detail for us."
