Shop's post office counter reopens 11 years after closing down
A POST office counter has opened at a Christchurch convenience store – 11 years after the previous one closed down.
It has been installed in the Londis in Stour Road as part of a recent refurbishment of the whole shop.
Now locals can post a letter and do a whole lot more including paying bills, withdrawing cash and ordering foreign currency. Customers of main UK banks can also access their accounts.
Manager Imogen Kelly said people had been “delighted” to find a post office operating at their local corner shop.
“It’s had a great reception,” she told the A&T. “The last one here closed down in 2008 so people have had to drive or take a bus to get to another one since then.
“Now they can just walk here which, for some of our more elderly customers, is much better.”
Post office services are available seven days a week, Monday-Sunday 6.30am-10pm.
Post Office change manager Matt Wall said: “We want to make it as easy as possible for customers to pay their bills, withdraw cash from their bank accounts, and send and collect their mail at a time and place that suits them best.
“We know how important our services are to customers, and are confident that this brand new post office, alongside Christchurch, Tuckton and Stourvale, will ensure that people in this area of Christchurch have easy access to our services.”
